Matisse and Picasso  An art collector by the name of Gertrude Stein arranged for Matisse and Picasso to meet. Little did she know that them meeting would influence the entire dynamic of modern art. Matisse and Piccaso were complete opposites; Matisse being more structured and organized with his thoughts and Picasso being more impulsive. Though their personalities were different both artist sough to influence and push boundaries of modern art.   At first they disliked each other's work but quickly challenged and motivated each other, which helped bring out the best in both artist.  They fed off of each other for technique, color, and concept to create their pieces.  I chose this video because I'm more familiar with Pablo Picasso, but never really knew much about him. I never knew how much of an influence Matisse was on his work. Expressionism  Expressionism was a form of modern art originiating in Germany. Art started to become more personal because the emoti...

Video Review

Video #1 When looking at marble statues it never came to mind the amount of thus artist have to take into consideration before creating the piece. For example,  how fragile the marble might be, h ow resistant is it to changing whether climates (is it going to be indoor or outdoor?), or how far will the marble extend so that their vision is able to come to life. The artist starts forming the piece with clay to get a visual start of what they visualized. Once they've made any finishing touches plaster is applied to help preserve the piece. This was an educational film and I learned a lot about the hardwork that sculpting requires. I found the video to be inspirational and I now have a greater appreciation for the art of sculpting, and the individulas who decide to persure this craft.  Video #2 Who knew glass was made from sand? Yet it has different properties than sand. Making glass is a long process that includes using fire to strengthen its properties. Its no...

Mask making

Me I chose my mas costumes( carnival costumes) as inspiration because they are filled with so much color and detail I thought it would be fun to make a mask inspired by their colors. I'm from the Caribbean so it's common for us to get dressed up like this and basically have one big party outside with loud music food and people. I took colors from each of the costumes, even from my step sister's costume(the purple one) to color in the mask. We don't usually wear masks with our costumes but usually really extravagant or small and detailed head pieces; so i thought why not switch it up. I used shape, color, texture, and line to create my mask. My frien had a mask alreay made with what seemed like a smooth plastic texture which is why the mask looks glossy. I also used rhinestones, glitter, and a gold sharpie to color it in. I free handed my design and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
