Module # 8-
More Human than Human
This video basically explains the art we see everyday all around us how,
and how the artist back then created a visual legacy which helped shape our own perception on art. The struggles of early artist lead to the triumph of some of the worlds greatest civilizations. Egyptian art for example, was some of the first forms of art to depict humans with unusal body features, much like pieces of the human body today. Most "Venus" figurines were the same shape because the brains of the hunters who made the figurines were pre programmed to exaggerate features that meant the most. They were living in s harsh ice age environment features of fertility and fatness would've been highly desirable well.
I chose this video because i love Greek Philosophy and Greek Art. I believe Greece was one of the forefathers of art. As they had many different forms of artwork, from their infrastructure of temples and buildings, to pottery, sculptures, the beautiful scenery. I feel it was a place where art was all around at all times. Somethings I've learned was during the 6th century B.C bone, copper, emory, and marble were key in making the human figurines arts. Greeks developed realism in movement and individualized forms with these statues.Pottery helped to add themes to whatever event was being depicted by use of colors, facial expressions, and cultural pieces drawn into them. By the 5th century, was the birth of classical art. Sculptures used parian marble to truly depict realism.Statues are given a natural posture humans have when one knee is bent, as the other is straight, as the shoulders follow. I enjoyed this video. I appreciate the greek artistry, in how they have a love for simplicity, yet are able to find divineness within simplicity. These statues lack color, yet their face and posture is able to relay movement and expression as natural as a real person. This video widened my views of sculpting and the insignificant details one would ignore or forget when sculpting. The way how the goddess Nike, just as the video states, her clothes were clung onto her tight which gives viewers the feeling that she is moving forward. One leg in front of the other, as her garments are behind her, used for balance of the statue, but also used to depict the wind blowing, which gives it all the more realism.
