He responded to the impact war had on a certain area, he even eliminated any elements of color because he felt color would distract from the impact of the painting.

The title Guernica refers to the city that was bombed by Nazi planes during the Spanish Civil War. The painting depicts the horrors of war and as a result, has come to be an anti-war symbol and a reminder of the tragedies of war.

Based on the expressions of the figures in the painting you could tell that their is some type of chaos going on. They look like they were screaming and running for their lives.

The expressions in this painting is really strong you can almost hear them screaming, I just wish that the actions were more clear, so that the viewer can actually see whats going on.
